With Halloween approaching, I thought I’d draw attention to one of my favorite artists, a musican and illustrator named Wes Freed whose work has appeared on numerous album covers and club posters, including Cracker and The Drive-By Truckers.
A bit rockabilly, a tad low-brow outsider, I like the way his work conveys such traditionally creepy imagery. I’m a huge fan of the old “spook horror” films, as well as anything that resembles the kind of classic Hallow’s Eve horror we grew up with: Wicked forests, skeletons, black crows standing on fence posts and the like. It’s atmospherically disturbing.
